ZOETROPE ANIMATION WORKSHOP
This animation workshop is
self contained, low tech, requires only pencils and markers,
works for any age group and is loads of fun!!
The workshop focuses on introducing young people to the basics of animation through the Zoetrope, an optical toy dating back to 100 BCE. Calibraska will be bringing their own zoetrope specially made in Los Angeles, California!
​Each workshop includes a hands-on activity incorporating play, history, science, art, creative expression, as well as animation principles and techniques.
​
In the workshop, students will learn the two ways of making animation (keyframe and straight ahead), what an animated loop is, draw their own animation strips and then see their drawings come to life right before their eyes!

Partners we’ve offered this workshop to include: 4-H, YMCA, 21st Century Learning Centers (Scottsbluff, North Platte, Kearney, and Lincoln area) LPS Professional Development, Alliance Recreation Center, Great Plains Art Museum, Rabble Mill-Gap Year, and Middle Schools, Grade Schools, High Schools, across the state of Nebraska!

Workshop Specs​

We are able to offer 2 different styles of workshops:
1 hour workshops for younger ages (K-3rd grade)
1 hour and 15-30 minute workshops for older ages (4th and up)
​
Calibraska provides the instruction, zoetrope, and zoetrope strips.
COSTS
Costs vary with size of group, length of workshop and travel. Typically a 1 hour workshop for 25 students within the Lincoln area costs around $200. We also offer add-on animation related activities for an additional fee. We are always open to discuss options to bring costs down/trade-offs.

What is a pop-up Adventure Playground? A Pop-up adventure playground is a temporary space for individuals to play in an authentic and self-directed way. They offer access to time, permission, and “loose parts” such as boxes, fabric, tape, and recyclables under the purview of playworkers who understand how to support but not direct the play.
Pop-Ups can happen anywhere! In schools, street fairs, community centers and public parks...our team of playworkers can come to your community. You provide the space, and we provide playworkers and loose parts so your players young and old can create to their hearts’ delight.
Each Pop-up is entirely unique and self-directed by the participants and therefore accommodates every group size, age range, ability, site, and more. They are adaptable to just about any surrounding and weather as well! Our Pop-ups have ranged in size from 10 to 400 players and ages ranging from diapers to adults and sometimes everything in between!
Workshop Specs​

The best pop-ups are a minimum of 2 hours long, however they can accommodate rotating groups over any length of time. The load in and set up of the space takes about an hour. Since the pop-ups can adjust to any site we also recommend a site visit in advance so our playworkers can plan to bring the best loose parts for the space. This also gives us a chance to connect with you and learn about the group and share any questions, ideas, or needs you may have.
COSTS
Costs vary with size of group, length of pop-up and travel. Typically a 2 hour pop-up, for around 30 players, within the Lincoln area, costs around $400. Longer or recurring pop-ups allow us to make more accommodations but we will work with you to customize a quote and schedule to best fit your needs!
